Not Just the Tip: Building Comfort and Confidence in Delivering Comprehensive Sexual Health Education
This Resource Spotlight was presented on Oct 12, 2023.
Not Just the Tip, developed by the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity in partnership with Wisdom2Action and Dr. Nadine Thornhill, is a comprehensive resource to support delivering sexual health education in a way that is inclusive and intersectional. It supports approaching any topic in a manner that resists shame-based narratives, is inclusive of all identities and experiences, and makes people feel comfortable and safe.
This Resource Spotlight takes participants through the key context around the state of sexual health education and the need for Not Just the Tip, as well as some of the resource’s contents before its release in November.
Not Just the Tip is beneficial to service providers and community organizations that do work related to sexual health, gender and sexuality, and gender-based violence.
A recording and slides of this Spotlight are not available.
Instead, we will share the Not Just the Tip report when it is released!
Learning Objectives
Following this Resource Spotlight, participants will be better able to:
- Identify the current gaps and pitfalls of sexual health education across Canada.
- Analyze the role of positionality in their delivery of sexual health education, and power dynamics between the person delivering the education and those receiving the education.
- Frame discussions regarding sexuality and sexual health using a pleasure-focused approach.
- Incorporate gender inclusive language and terminology into their practice, regardless of their role within sexual health, gender-based violence, or education-related work.
